What are the Benefits of Zazen and Meditation?

Zazen is at the heart of Zen Buddhist practice and basically means seated meditation. It represents the doorway to enlightenment, the pathway to glory. Zazen practised properly is the concentrated effort of emptying the mind.

“All thoughts whether positive or negative, are mutable and impermanent, they will always have a beginning, middle and an end. It has been commonly noted that thought is the sickness of the human mind and from a Buddhist point of view, that is very accurate.” This is a quote from The Three Pillars of Zen by Philip Kapleau a great introductory book to Zen.

Have you ever had something on your mind and then started to feel unwell? This is because of the energy being wasted.

Unfortunately the majority of human beings will live anxious, restless and half-crazed lives. Their minds, filled with delusion, are turned upside down and back to front. The only solution available is that we return to our original perfection. As infants we had no false image of ourselves, we just were.

“The mind of a Buddha is like water that is calm, deep, and crystal clear, upon which the moon of truth reflects perfectly. The normal mind is like murky water, constantly being churned by gales of delusive thought. It is no longer able to reflect the moon of truth.

As long as the gales of delusive thoughts are churning the water it will be impossible to be able to ascertain true nature and the untrue. Therefore these winds must be calmed through the act of practicing Zazen. The churning will stop, the water will clear. Then you will realise that the moon of truth never stopped shining because now you can see the reflection.”

This sexy piece of text describing enlightenment or Kensho is also from The Three Pillars of Zen by Philip Kapleau.

Benefits of Zazen for Pick Up

Practising Zazen Meditation daily will allow you to experience many fantastic things:-

1. Get in touch with yourself beyond your physical presence and mind. It will guide you towards the deep true you, the spiritual you. A true realisation of “Who Am I?” on a deep level that only really comes in the form of spiritual enlightenment.

1b. Practicing Zazen twice a day, fifteen minutes a session for a month will give you a lot deeper sense of who you are. Anyone who is in touch with his core is very attractive. This is masculine energy, centered and un-reactive.

2. It will help stop the endless thought loops that go on in the mind. This will lead to more control of your own state. The average person is bombarded by lots of mental images, being played over and over again. This is both energy sapping and tiring, leading to mood swings. Zazen will quieten your mind and condition you to become more aware of your thoughts.

2b. A lot of the thought loops that the mind plays are using up unnecessary energy. This is often why stressing about something will quickly lead to tiredness, or sometimes sickness. Instead of over analysing, simply look at the options and take right action based on your decision.

3. “See reality clearly rather than a false perception of reality created by your mind. Imagine true reality is like water. When you have an over-active mind it is clouding it into a thick sludgy Amazon river.” Quoted from Zen Mind by Shunryu Suzuki. When the mind is active, nothing is clear because of your thought loops, rationalisations and beliefs. e.g. A feeling that your girlfriend is cheating on you is usually manufactured by yourself.

5. Zazen develops the power of concentration allowing you to focus on whatever you want to achieve. Most of the time people try to do lots of things and get easily distracted. With a concentrated mind you become a lot more focused and efficient, resulting in more free time. So when your approaching women instead of reacting to weird social drama or strange facial expressions, you stay focused.

6. If you worry about approaching women then you are probably playing negative thought loops in your mind. These thought loops happen in milliseconds and will change your mood instantly. Happy one second, depressed, angry or frustrated the next. Zazen quietens this barrage of unwanted mind noise, so when approaching a woman you will be completely refreshed and in the present moment. Negative emotions lead to negative energy, weak smiles, dull eyes and nervous mannerisms. When you remove these negative thought looks you will stay positive and happy throughout the night.

Zazen is taught on all PUA Method bootcamps plus a meditation session to take your inner game to the next level.

    Good morning

I have been using this meditation for over 40 years and have seen the supreme self twice, inside while sitting doing this meditation and externally thru a vision. You should read the “VIVEKA-CUDAMANI” OF SRI SANKARACARYA by Swami Madhavananda and Self-Knowledge of Sri Sankaracarya by Swami Nikhilananda. Each of these books will give you a good foundation in using the ” neti-neti ” meditation.

To make this meditation work it will be required that you cutback your commerce with the world at large a great deal.
Another words strict control of the mind in the area’s of lust, anger and greed.

    sincerely

I thought this might be of interest to anyone considering starting meditation or already into it.

Although this doesn’t have much in the way of figures to prove it works, I think its worth thinking about. I cannot recommend meditation enough, do it!
